The weather is getting warmer and the bugs are swarming! In the past few years, there has been a lot of discussion regarding store-bought bug repellent sprays which are filled with many harmful chemicals. Today I want to share my DIY essential oil bug spray recipe for those who are looking for a natural solution!
When it comes to bug sprays I am EXTREMELY picky as bugs seem to love me and I often get eaten alive! In the past, there have been nights when camping where I had to go into the tent instead of enjoying the bonfire because the bug bites were getting unbearable! As someone who seems to attract bugs like crazy, I promise this spray is awesome!

DIY Essential Oil Bug Spray
The recipe I am sharing today uses lemongrass & cedarwood essential oils. While this recipe works very well for me, it may not work as well for others. If you find this recipe doesn’t work as well as you would like, try using other essential oils that help repel bugs!
Essential Oils to Repel Mosquitos:
This is not an inclusive list, however here are some popular essential oils to help repel mosquitos:

- TerraSheild Blend from doTERRA
Can All Essential Oil Bug Repellents be Used with Children?
Not all essential oils are recommended for use with young children, in fact, lemongrass (which I use in my recipe) isn’t ideal for children under 2. This is speaking of essential oils in general so it is important that you do your own research to make informed decisions about using certain oils with your children.
Do you have young kids? Sarah from One Essential Community shares 6 diy essential oil bug spray blends which are safe to use with children! As you may have guessed, lavender appears in most of these recipes! Head over to One Essential Community HERE all of the children’s bug spray recipes!

Now that you have the recipe, where do you plan to store it? On a scrap of paper? Pinterest? Written on whatever was near you at the time? I was always finding great essential oil recipes but didn’t have a place to store them! This resulted in scraps of paper that often got lost or pinterest pins that got buried on my boards. So I decided to solve this problem by creating my Essential Oil Toolkit & Recipe Journal!
