Winter has DEFINITELY arrived! I try to ignore it most every year hoping it will just go away. Unfortunately, that never works! The winter cold has the ability to cast a cloud over us. It’s dark, cold and dreary and it’s not uncommon for people to find themselves in a funk. This can have a huge impact on our energy, wellness and mood if we let it.
Essential oils are a natural way you can combat the blues, sustain energy and revitalize your mood and environment. There are many oils to choose from for this time of year but here are five amazing essential oils to help combat winter blues.
5 of My Favorite Essential Oils to Combat Winter Blues
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot is the essential oil recommended for when you are feeling low. It’s been used for years by aromatherapists as a natural mood lifter. Both spicy and sweet, the aroma of bergamot has a citrus-like quality that brings about happiness.
Frankincense Essential Oil
Combine Frankincense essential oil with hand washing (get my foaming hand soap recipe) to strengthen the immune system. Frankincense is a wonderful choice for improving mood while relaxing you enough for a great night’s sleep. It’ll be a little easier to get out of bed in the morning; especially important because if you’re anything like me, you’d rather stay underneath the warm covers.
Grapefruit Essential Oil
If a burst of energy is what you need, Grapefruit essential oil is an excellent choice. Grapefruit is energizing, uplifting and smells great. This oil is sure to get you moving if you wake up sleepy and unmotivated. Trust me; you’ll want to have this oil on standby.
Sandalwood Essential Oil
Winter can bring about slow circulation and leave you feeling cold, tired and sluggish. Sandalwood essential oil is one of many essential oils known to increase blood flow. Adding essential oils to your bath is an easy and pleasurable way to revitalize your body and spirit.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
Ylang Ylang essential oil is a wonderful choice during the winter months. A Floral, sweet smelling oil with the added benefit of being a mood booster that helps to promote a positive outlook. Ylang Ylang essential oil has been known to lift mood with an added calming effect to balance emotions. Wonderful for the skin and hair you can say goodbye to dry, patchy winter skin.
There are a number of ways to use these oils; diffusing, bath time and as a linen or room spray are popular choices for using in the home. Wintertime is a great opportunity to experiment with combining oils while helping to keep your spirits high. Whether wintertime is a time you thrive or just survive, have fun and treat yourself to a little self-care. Meanwhile, I’m stocking up on essential oils and waiting on sunshine.
