How to Find Happiness Within Yourself
If you ask most anyone what they want out of life, they’ll tell you that they just want to be happy. Why is this one emotion so elusive? While there are many different answers, one of the most notable ones is that a large number of people search for happiness in the wrong place: outside themselves.
Sure, having a nice house, nice car, and nice things is great, but the reality is that if you weren’t happy before you got them, you’re probably not going to be happy afterwards either. This is because happiness is something that is located within yourself, which is good news because that means that there are many things you can do to find it.
Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
Albert Einstein is credited with saying, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.” This couldn’t be more true. Just because someone is thinner, taller, prettier, or smarter than you doesn’t mean that you don’t have them beat in other areas. So let go of your comparisons and just be the fantastic person you are.
Do One Productive Thing Every Day
It’s pretty hard to feel happy if you feel stuck. Maybe your career isn’t growing as fast as you’d like, or perhaps you’re having a hard time reaching your health and fitness goals. One way to get over this is to do one productive thing every day that will get you closer to where it is you want to be. For instance, if you want to get off those blood pressure medications, take a day off from salt or go for a walk to relieve your stress. Every little thing matters and you always feel better when you’re working toward something.
Take Better Care of Yourself Physically
If you’re living a sedentary life and eating nothing other than junk food, it can be very difficult to feel happy because you feel so rotten physically. On the other hand, when you take care of your body and give it what it needs to succeed, you’ll feel better (and happier) as a result. What are some things you can do to take better care of yourself? Select a Career You Love
When you work full-time, a majority of your day is spent on the job. What better way to increase your happiness then than doing something you love? Picking a career you’re passionate about can bring you a lot of joy, like it did for Jil Larsen who used her passion for integrative nutrition to become a health coach and open her own health food store. So decide what you’re passionate about and build a career around it. You’ll increase your happiness level tremendously when you do!
Focus On Your Blessings
Another rather simple way to increase your internal-based happiness is to focus on your blessings, the things you have to be thankful for in your life. Although you might not be exactly where you want to be, you still have a lot to be grateful for and the more you appreciate these things, the more joy you will experience daily.
