Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils

Do all of your spring cleaning with essential oils! These simple & affordable recipes give you all natural solutions for your spring cleaning! When I hear the word ‘spring’, I always think of spring cleaning (which is really weird because I HATE cleaning)!

There are a number of reasons why I like cleaning with essential oils:

  1. I can choose the scent I like. I find a lot of store bought cleaners smell quite strong or have a weird chemical smell which I don’t like.
  2. I can SAVE A LOT of money by making my own cleaners. The cleaners I make generally consist of water & essential oils OR water, vinegar & essential oils. I can make my own cleaning solutions for a fraction of the price of store bought.
  3. Most importantly, I am not adding harsh chemicals to my home. When I make my own cleaners I know exactly what’s in them. The whole point is to CLEAN, to me adding more chemicals takes away from this purpose.

Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils

The wonderful thing about creating your own all natural cleaners is you can choose the oils you like! I recommend using oils that you like the scent of but it is also important to choose oils based on their benefits. Below you will see lists of common essential oils for disinfecting & deodorizing. Look at your oil collection, think about what you need your cleaner for and then look at the list to help you make your own!

  1. I am a doTERRA user myself and am ordering my first OnGuard cleaning products. I am not a fan of cleaning either, but with the right oils we can lift our moods while we do. 😉

  2. I really am obsessed with essential oils! I tried Balance by Doterra and I was hooked. I loved how it really calmed my nervous and helped me go to sleep. I tried I think it was OnGuard as a spray to clean before and I just love love love the way it smells! This reminds me of how many more oils I need to try in order to try some more of these recipes you shared!

  3. I have so many friends that sell and use essential oils. I received a few bottles for Christmas and have used them a little. I’m still on the fence about whether or not they actually do anything, but I do enjoy the way they smell. I can’t put them on my skin because the Joy oil from YoungLiving gave me an awful rash on my arm where I applied it both times I did. It lasted for two weeks, so I just put it on a cotton ball and enjoy the smell.

    • I’m sorry to hear that you got a rash from the oil. It could be the brand. I’ve heard that when YoungLiving is tested occasionally there are things in their oils that they don’t list. From my research DoTerra seems to be the best grade. 🙂

  4. I need to do some deep spring cleaning starting with these baseboards and I know if I use lemon things will smell oh so good around here and be clean in the process.

  5. I’m all for green and natural products, but it’s even greater when you can make them on your own. I have a big bottle of lemon essential oil that I am not using. Time to put it to good use. Thanks for sharing this.

  6. This is great information to have when you have children and pets around. I want to be able to clean my house with items that won’t have a strong toxic smell and safe to have around. This is a great post, thank you!

  7. This is great to know. I just started checking out essential oils, so I’m not quite sure all about them yet. I have started using some for cleaning, but I love finding new ways to use them. I have a bird, and 6 kiddos that are all so very sensitive to smells and cleaners so using essential oils is probably the best option for us.

  8. I love using essential oils to clean my home. I make a general cleaning spray with tea tree and lavender that is perfect for wiping down counters and appliances. I am really interested in the white fir you mentioned, I’ve never tried it!

  9. I didn’t know about the closet trick. We just moved into a new place, temporarily, and the closets have a “woodsy” smell that just won’t leave. I’m definitely trying it today because the smell is driving me insane.

  10. I use essentials oils for all kinds of things. This is a great list of them. I tend to use peppermint for a cleaner in the kitchen. I have always been told that mint is a great deterrent for bugs like ants. I also love the citrus scents for cleaning the bathrooms.

  11. It is really important for us to ensure the cleanliness and the safety of home. It’s great that there are natural ways we can do this aside from just relying on the chemical sprays we find in the supermarkets which can be very harmful.

  12. I love this list. I was researching to find ways to clean with essential oils that I can use in an article that I am writing. This is perfect! I actually use the deodorizing method you mentioned for my entire house. Now I need to try the other methods out as well. Especially my trash can! Great article!

I would love to hear from you... leave me your thoughts!
