Depression is something many people (myself included) struggle with either chronically or periodically throughout life. Regardless of the type of depression, you know that it can be scary, debilitating, lonely and well awful… to say it bluntly.
For me one of the hardest parts is when depression comes back full force. I think it’s because you don’t notice as much when things slowly start to get better but when it gets worse you become fully aware of how well you had been doing. One of the depression quotes below reads “it sucks because I was getting better and now I’m not”. I can totally relate to this and I’m guessing if you are in a difficult place right now that you can too.
I want to be very clear that the purpose of this post is not for you to feel worse. These quotes are not cheerful or inspiring, rather they truly reflect what it is like to live with depression. The reason I compiled this post is because I know how lonely and isolating depression can be. All you want to do is to be able to relate to someone yet you can’t bring yourself to talk and share with others. And if you can then you may not know what words to use to describe what you are going through.
I feel that these quotes help to give words to the emotions that we don’t always know how to express when we are depressed. It is also my hope that these quotes will remind you that you are not alone and there are other people out there who ‘get’ what you are going through. In the past, I wrote 7 truths about depression and 15 quotes people living with anxiety can relate to, both with the purpose of reminding you that you are not alone. It is my hope that this post will do the same.
If you find these quotes helpful or if you know someone who could benefit from reading them please feel free to share with others <3
