Life has recently thrown me a curveball (thanks life!) and I have been dealing with many new feeling and emotions that I have not had to manage at this level before. I have been feeling anxious, nervous, scared, panicked and overwhelmed. While I have experienced these feelings at one point or another in my life, these feeling are now much stronger and something I am dealing with on a daily basis.
I am trying many things to help manage these feelings and I would recommend that you see a medical professional if you are feeling the same. One of the ways I am managing my emotions is to use essential oils that have a calming and relaxing aroma.
Today I wanted to share some of the essential oils that have been helping me to relax and how I have been using them.

Essential Oils for Calming & Relaxation
One great way to enjoy the calming aroma of essential oils during the day is to wear an essential oil diffusing bracelet or necklace. Using essential oil diffusing jewelry will allow you to enjoy the calming and relaxing benefits of essential oils anywhere you go! I highly recommend Diffusing Mama’s when purchasing your diffusing jewelry! You can read my review of Diffusing Mama’s products here.
Calming & Relaxing Essential Oils to Use in Your Diffusing Jewelry
If you don’t have essential oil jewelry you can get some here or use these essential oils in your diffuser. I recommend using 4-5 drops of essential oil in 100ml of water. I will share my favourite diy relaxing diffuser blend in a moment but first let’s talk about individual oils that have calming and relaxing properties!
Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular essential oils for relaxation. It is also a very common essential oil in general, and is one that almost all essential oil users have in their supply. In fact, I have yet to see an essential oil company sell a starter package (ranging from 3-10 essential oils) which does not include lavender!
When I first learned of and tried cedarwood essential oil I was surprised to learn that it helps with relaxation. However I was quite pleased after trying this oil in my diffuser one evening as the woodsy aroma really did help me to feel calm and relaxed.
Bergamot essential oil is a citrus oil which is great in helping to support your mood including relaxation as well as uplifting your spirits. This is likely not an essential oil that you want to use to help you unwind at the end of a long day but rather one you can use during a hectic day when you’re feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.
Safety precaution: It is important to note that bergamot is a photosensitive essential oil meaning that if it is applied to your skin and then exposed to direct sunlight within 12 to 24 hours it could react with the sunlight and burn your skin. I recommend using this essential oil in your diffuser or apply it to an area such as the soles of your feet which are protected by socks or shoes when going outside (greatly reducing the risk of a reaction).
Many people have encountered eucalyptus related to relaxation in spas. The same of course, is true for eucalyptus essential oil. Not only does it promote feelings of relaxation, eucalyptus essential oil also helps in promoting feelings of clear breathing which can be very helpful when you’re feeling overwhelmed and agitated.
Frankincense has been used for many years and is in the Bible (you may remember it being talked about in reference to the Three Wise Men). Frankincense has been called the King of oils and it is often said that if you aren’t sure which essential oil to use, use frankincense. Frankincense can be used for many different things and of course, relaxation is one of them.

Now that we have reviewed individual essential oils for calming & relaxation, I wanted to share a diffuser recipe & roller bottle blend from my essential oil ebook Essential Oils Made Easy: DIY Diffuser & Roller Bottle Recipes!
First I will share one of my calming & relaxing diffuser blends from my ebook!
Put Your Feet Up Diffuser Blend
What You Need to Make this Blend:
- 3 drops of Frankincense essential oil (if you do not have frankincense, use lavender instead)
- 2 drops of Orange/ Wild Orange essential oil
- An essential oil diffuser of your choice
How to Make Your Diffuser Blend:
- Put 70-100ml of water into your diffuser. Please note that diffusers all hold different amounts of water so you may need to increase or reduce the recipe so that it works with the size of diffuser that you have.
- Add your essential oils.
- Put the cover on the diffuser and turn it on.
I love using this blend and I think you will too!
One of my favourite essential oil blends to use before bedtime is an essential oil diffuser blend from my essential oil ebook called Sleep Like a Log Diffuser Blend. This recipe is based on using a diffuser that holds at least 70ml of water. You need 3 drops of cedarwood & 2 drops of lavender. I usually start my diffuser at least 20 minutes before bed and then let the diffuser run through the evening. I use the Quooz Rockano diffuser for this blend which is perfect as it has a long run time! See more essential oil blends to help with sleep here!
Now I wanted to share one the roller bottle blends from my ebook! Please note that although I have this blend in the evening section, you can also use it during the day. That being said I use similar oils in my sleep like a log diffuser blend which is why I have put this blend in the evening section.
Calm & Serene Roller Bottle Blend
What You Need:
- 10ml essential oil roller bottle
- a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or jojoba oil
- 12 drops of Cedarwood essential Oil
- 8 drops of Lavender essential oil
How to Make the Blend:
- Pour 12 drops of cedarwood essential oil and 8 drops of lavender essential oil into an empty 10ml roller bottle.
- Fill the the rest of the roller bottle with a carrier oil of your choice (grapeseed oil is the most inexpensive).
- Tightly insert the roller bottle top and screw on the lid. Gently shake the bottle end for end to mix the oils together.
- That’s all, now you are ready to use it! Please note you need to shake the bottle prior to each use.
Applying the Blend
I recommend applying this blend by rolling it across the back of your neck twice and applying a dab to the inside of each wrist.
Alternatively, you can apply the blend to the soles of your feet if you are in a place that does not allow scents. Simply roll the bottle up and down (once) on the sole of each foot and cover your feet with socks. I have done this many times and have never had anyone complain about being able to smell the oils in my scent free workplace.
DIY Relaxing Essential Oil Soap
One great way to help relax and unwind after a long way is to have a nice warm shower! I was experimenting with essential oil soaps a few months ago and I decided to make a soap recipe specifically to be used for relaxation in the evenings! The recipe also includes oatmeal which is very calming and soothing for your skin! I love this soap (though I am probably biased)! You can get my recipe for DIY relaxing essential oil soap here. The best part is this recipe only takes minutes to make.
