Essential Oils for Dogs

I have had essential oil users asking me about using essential oils for dogs. Their main motivation for wanting to use essential oils on their four-legged friends are:

  1. They want to support their pet’s health and wellness naturally… after all, they are family members too!
  2. Vet bills are expensive, essential oils can be a very cost-effective alternative especially if the family already has the oils in the home!

Although I do have a very dear four-legged family member, I do not have a lot of experience using essential oils with animals. I want my readers to have the information they need, but I also want to make sure it is correct and reliable. For this reason, I will be sharing some excellent posts from other bloggers who have experience using essential oils for dogs!

I do however use lavender essential oil with my dog on her Thundershirt which comes in Xsmall, small, medium, large, and XL. Our dog HATES car rides, we think it is anxiety. Driving with her is not only stressful for her but for us as well as she gets so upset. Putting on the Thundershirt really helps to settle her down and putting a few drops of lavender essential oil on the patch really helps!

Without further ado, let’s get this pet friendly – essential oil loving – information sharing party started!

  1. Very interesting that we can use essential oils for dogs…my dog has floppy ears and gets infections a lot…I’m going to look into that oil ear wash. Thanks for the info!

    • Yes Tea Tree oil is very dangerous for dogs and is one that shouldn’t be used on pets (with the rare exception). I am glad the vet was able to help in time! There are beginning to be more known veterinarians using essential oils with pets. Using essential oils with animals has been discussed in literature i.e. Modern Essentials book. Humans have been using essential oils for thousands of years, but I don’t believe there is as much written history regarding use with animals. But don’t quote me on that, I’m still new to essential oils with animals which is why I pulled together posts from these fabulous bloggers! Thanks for visiting!

    • I used Lavender on mine fr our long car ride today… she hates being in the car, it seemed to settle her! I put a drop on my hand, rubbed my hands together and then pet her for a few minutes. I would be interested to hear how it works for you!
