Do You Want the Secret to Feel Mommy Zen?

If you are anything like me, a crazy busy stay-at-home mom for two girls and trying to do a million other things, like running a business, all while trying to keep everyone happy, alive, and the house from exploding with toys and laundry, then I think you can relate to this post!

All of the activities and emotions of family on mom equates to stress. As we know, built up stress can lead to a million side effects which negatively impact your health! The negative impacts are endless and not pretty! Great, something more I need to worry about in my day!

Have no fear. I am going to share my secret weapon! Organic Bergamot Essential Oil! That’s right ladies, this gem is the secret key to zen at the end of the day. Bergamot has a spicy and slightly citrus smell. If you sniff a pouch of Earl Grey Tea, it would smell pretty similar to that. Bergamot is considered a Top Note. Meaning, when used in the perfume world, it is the first scent to evaporate. So I combine Bergamot with other stress fighting essential oils. But first, why Bergamot?

Benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil

  1. Bergamot has been helpful in relieving stress
  2. Aids in repairing & restoring balance while supporting the body’s physical and emotional shield against stress
  3. Can help remove negativity, anger, anxious feelings, and sadness
  4. Can help alieve frustration (key for me after the conundrum called bath & bedtime routine)
  5. Aids in stimulating the appetite/digestive aid.

Here is what I do at the end of every day. I first take a hot shower. I take time to stand with the water running over my head, with my eyes, closed and take several slow deep breaths. With each inhale I allow myself to take in the calm of the silence only listening to the water fall. I breathe in slowly letting my belly expand out like I swallowed a beach ball. I hold the breath for just a second and then slowly release all the air out until it feels like my belly button is touching my spine. Sounds weird I know, but give it a try right now!

With each exhale I release a stress from the day, such as, racing out the door without the grocery list, only to come home from the store and realize I forgot half the items on the list. Or, I forgot my daughter’s lunch for preschool as I’m pulling into the school, now have to do a 30 minute round trip with a fussy baby to get it to her in time. And so on. You don’t have to do every frustration from the day, otherwise you could be taking an endless shower, right! Just a few to start taking the edge off.

Mommy Stress Relief Essential Oil Roller

Next, I have my Mommy Stress Relief Essential Oil Roller. This is my recipe:

  • 4 drops Organic Bergamot
  • 3 drops Organic Lavender
  • 1 drop Organic Ylang Ylang
  • 25 ml Cold-pressed Organic Grapeseed Oil (the carrier oil most used oil by aroma-therapists because it is hypo-allergenic and odorless)
  • 1 oz Glass Roller Bottle


First put in the essential oil drops, then the Grapeseed Oil. Put on the lid and gently turn upside down. Do not shake hard. Allow to sit for 24 hours. Gently turn every few hours, and always before each use.

Just my quick PSA on why organic. There are so many contaminates out in the world these days and I don’t want them on my skin or in my body. Remember, essential oils DO absorb into the blood stream and DO cross the blood-brain barrier. So if there are any contaminates in those oils it runs the risk of those contaminates in your body.

Ok so back to getting out of the shower… I get on my cozy jammies and rub a little of the Mommy Stress Roller on my inner wrists and a little on my chest at heart center. If it is a really rough day, I also do the bottoms of my feet. I lay flat on my bed and gently breathe in the blend, while saying this affirmation: “It is wise and healthy to let go and surrender. I am completely relaxed and at peace with myself and the world.” Sometimes I actually fall asleep right then and there! But usually after a few minutes I feel relaxed and rejuvenated, and will get up and do something for me. Scrolling Pinterest with a glass of wine usually hits the spot!
