How an Essential Oil Skeptic Became a Believer

How an Essential Oil Skeptic Became a Believer. How to use essential oils. www.paintedteacup.comToday I am excited to share a guest post with you. Now this post is a little different than usual as it was not written by another blogger but instead by my wonderful husband Travis! Here is his story of his experience with essential oils and how he is no longer and essential oil skeptic. In fact, there are time when he uses essential oils without me even knowing!

How an Essential Oil Skeptic Became a Believer

I’ll admit, it took me quite a while to come around to the idea of using essential oils when something was wrong with me.  My dad and I used to tease my wife Chantal a bit saying that they were “hippie” oils.  I mean using all natural essential oils to help a headache, soothe sore joints, help my stuffy nose and hurting ear?  Sounds like hippie plant magic to me :P.  At least that’s what I would have said a few months ago.  Today is a different story.

My grandmother in law introduced my wife to essential oils, which she fell in love with immediately.  For whatever reason, I usually end up feeling under the weather whenever we go visit her side of the family (I swear I was actually sick, I like her side of the family!).  I’d show up to visit for a weekend, and I’d have a stuffy nose, headache, and just not feel well all around.  As I said I was very skeptical about essential oils, but my grandmother in law took it upon herself to help me with my awful symptoms.  For my stuffy nose she boiled some water, and added a couple drops of wintergreen essential oil.  She then had me drape a towel over my head/container of water and told me to breathe deep through my nose.  So with nothing to lose I breathe in, the strong smell caught me off guard at first, but I quickly got used to it.  As I continue to breathe in and out, I can feel my nose clearing up more and more. Finally I could breathe through my nose, and it was glorious!  Ok so maybe wintergreen works for stuffy noses, but I can’t see essential oils helping me with my bad knee or my sore hand.  I’m still not really a believer at this point.

When Everything Changed

The moment that really had me change my mind, was when I was playing an online game on my computer.  Due to previous injuries to my right hand, it tends to get very sore while driving and using the mouse at my computer.  I don’t generally like the idea of taking advil or tylenol just for a sore hand. So my wife suggested I use some of her “hippie” oils to help sooth my pain.  I kind of chuckled and went back to playing my game.  After some time the pain was worse, and why stop playing my game just because my hand hurts?  That’s just crazy talk!  So I decide that maybe giving the oils a shot wouldn’t be such a bad idea.  My wife had made a blend of oils in a roller bottle (lemongrass and white fir) to soothe pain.  I rolled on some of the oil around my the area in pain and resume playing my game.  It wasn’t until I was done playing that I realized my hand wasn’t hurting anymore!  Just a fluke I’m sure.

Ok, I am an Essential Oil Believer

A few days later my bad knee was acting up.  My knee will hurt seemingly at random, and can get so bad as to make me limp.  My wife again suggests I use the roller bottle, I agree.  I apply the oil and within a few minutes the pain has subsided significantly.  At this point I’m forced to consider the idea that maybe it’s not a fluke.  Maybe the oils do help to soothe my pain.  I still don’t use essential oils as much as my wife does.  But for me personally, I find the soothing blend to be very helpful.

So that’s story about how a skeptic became a believer.

Any other people out there have a similar experience?

  1. I have to admit that I’ve always been a little bit of a skeptic when it comes to essential oils. Maybe I need to actually use those essential oils that I bought a few weeks ago.

  2. I’ve always been in the middle when it comes to Essential Oils. I understand that they have so many great uses but I just didn’t feel the need to use them. It’s awesome that your husband is a believer now <3

  3. There are so many people switching to essential oils rather than taking over the counter pain meds or even prescribed now days. I take pain pills for muscles spasms do to my problems and have been thinking so much about using the essential oils. They are indeed on my Christmas list this year.
