I have been struggling with anxiety for about 4 years now. Until that time I thought I understood what anxiety felt like… turns out I didn’t have a clue.
Unfortunately, I am now very aware of what it is like to have anxiety and have recently been diagnosed as having Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD.
Now that I know the reason for my feelings, it is a little easier to try and make sense of how I am feeling. But when it all started, I was truly terrified. I remember these feelings making my anxiety and panic attacks so much more unbearable!
I didn’t want to think yet couldn’t stop thinking… this often still happens only now I have some coping skills to help me manage a bit better.
Overall I felt scared, worried, confused and alone.
One thing I did when I was scared was turn to the internet, specifically quotes about anxiety and panic attacks on pinterest. Seeing quotes that I could relate to made me feel less alone. It helped, even if only a bit. This is why I have put together these quotes, in hopes that they will help someone else who is struggling with anxiety!

Unfortuntaely this is something that many of us who struggle with our mental health can relate to.

When anxiety hits it’s so hard to ‘turn off’ my brain. In fact, it feels like it goes into overdrive!
“It’s really sad how one day I’ll seem to have everything going right then the next day I’ll lose everything so fast.” -Unknown
Personally, this is something I continue to struggle with daily. It’s so frustrating to have a really good day followed by another bad one. I’m sure this is something most of you can relate to as well.
“Don’t assume I’m weak because I have panic attacks. You’ll never know the amount of strength it takes to face the world every day.” -Unknown
The energy and pure strength it takes to endure a panic attack is so extreme, more than I ever imagined.

While this quote speaks to people with anxiety it is also very true for anyone struggling with a mental health condition or chronic illness.

It truly is a vicicious cycle.

This is such a powerful quote. It’s one I believe more people need to read, especially those who don’t understand mental health conditions.
“The worst feeling in the world is trying to hold back a panic attack in public.” -Unknown
Holding back a panic attack in public adds a whole new level of anxiety on top of the already existing anxiety. Such a terrifying feeling, at least for me.
“I am exhausted from trying to be stronger than I feel.” -Unknown
I think this is a daily struggle for most of us.
“Confession: Sometimes I get anxious because I don’t feel anxious. Which means I forgot what I was supposed to feel anxious about in the first place and that gives me anxiety.” -Unknown
Another frustating feeling – being anxious because you are anxious. I find this to be one of the most challenging feelings to cope with.
“This is one of the most frustrating things about having an anxiety disorder; Knowing as you’re freaking out that there’s no reason to be freaked out, but lacking the ability to shut the emotion down.” -Unknown
YES. YES. YES. So incredibly frustrating!
“It’s sad, actually, because my anxiety keeps me from enjoying things as much as I should at this age.” -Amanda Seyfried
I can’t imagine how children deal with anxiety at such a young age. I have to say I am very thankful that mine stayed at bay until my early/mid twenties.
“I don’t think anyone could ever criticize me more severely than the way I viciously criticize myself.” -Unknown
We are our own worst enemies and harshist critics.
“I get nervous about everything, sometimes I literally don’t know why I’m anxious, I just am and no-one seems to understand that.” -Unknown
It drives me crazy when I can’t figure out why it is that I am anxious.
“I don’t think people understand how stressful it is to explain what’s going on in your head when you don’t even understand it yourself.” -Unknown
And then there is the added worry that they won’t understand. But whatever you do, keep trying to explain to your loved ones how you feel… no matter how difficult. Rememeber, you are a warrior… you can do this!
I hope you have found these quotes helpful! Best of luck managing your anxiety and remember that you aren’t alone!

I’m 15 and I have an anxiety disorder. It occurs randomly and it’s so overwhelming, it happens mostly in public.
But I always rely on God cuz I know he’s looking over me and I know he sees what’s happening and he knows how I’m feeling.
My friends can’t help. They don’t understand.
But that doesn’t matter cuz omnibenovelant knows.
But to be honest, I hate anxiety. It restricts me from doing so many things. It’s like carrying a prison with you everywhere.
And at times, it’s so difficult to get out of bed.
It can be so challenging when the people around you don’t understand! I can relate to how you feel for sure. I am glad your faith helps you to get through! xo
I also have and hate anxiety. Family and friends don’t understand and reaching out for professional help has nearly been impossible. The psychiatrist and counseling places Never have answered their phones to help or schedule an appt.to help me when I have called. We have good insurance but no one answers the phones. At times I get tired and desperate along with this anxiety disorder. I pray & look to my Lord but haven’t found much peace. I tried exercise and meditation, yoga and long walks. Music helps but that’s it .my heart &prayers are with you all
Hi Rhonda, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time! It is so tough when your support system doesn’t understand. I am glad that music is helping you somewhat! Keep calling the counselling services, someone will answer eneventually. Or go in to book in person, I know this can be extremely challenging but it sounds like you really want help and that might be the best way to be heard. You are a fighter!
